Every man needs a solid fragrance collection versatile enough for every scenario he may face, and with this selection here, you should be covered for the overwhelming majority.
1. An everyday
An everyday fragrance is essential. Something clean and light that smells pleasant without the risk of offending anyone's nostrils. You don't want anything too intimate or loud, spicy or sweet, strong or weak. With that in mind, our first pick is Bleu de Chanel. Bleu de Chanel is a woody aromatic men's fragrance that is wearable in almost any instance, year-round. If we could only wear one fragrance, it would probably be this. Our second pick is Prada's L'homme. This is a clean and formal fragrance that thrives in almost all settings. It has moderate sillage and longevity, but not to the point of insulting anyone. Our final pick is Allure Homme Sport Chanel. A citrus and vanilla fusion that quietly impresses. Again, a great pick for everyday use.
2. The office
Safe, sensible and suitable. The office can be a war zone of scents clashing to be the loudest. This is a battle you want to avoid. You want a discreet fragrance that is only noticeable from a close distance. Therefore, our first pick is Montblanc Explorer. One of our personal favourites, this fragrance is extremely versatile and suited perfectly for everyday use. It has woody, citrusy and aromatic notes. It has moderate sillage; however, only those within reasonable proximity will be able to smell it on you. Our next pick is Tom Ford Beau de Jour. An aromatic fragrance that will last all day. It’s unmistakably masculine, yet understated. A perfect choice for the office. Finally, an outside pick. H24 Herbes Vives Hermès. A green, clean machine. It's a unique fragrance that has green, sweet and aquatic notes. However, this is a very pleasant scent that suits the office environment.
3. Date night
One of the most important mentions on this list. Finding the right scent for date night is essential. It needs to be a statement, one that's noticed and remembered. For this one, it's okay for it to be intense; in fact, it should be. Starting off, we have gone for Perfumes de Marly's Layton. It's warm, spicy and addictive. One that's guaranteed to live long in the mind of anyone who encounters it. Therefore, it's the perfect choice. Secondly, another warm, spicy fragrance. Angels' share by Killian. It's a fragrance that thrives in the nighttime, creating a perfect cosy scent. It also has generous longevity, so it'll last you through the night. Finally, a safe pick. One that is almost impossible not to love. YSL MYSLF. This one is guaranteed to fetch compliments. An aromatic, citrusy scent that will always turn heads, leading it to deserve a spot on this list.
4. Hot weather
The last thing you want to do in the heat of summer is to wear a scent that opposes it. Certain notes such as tobacco, Oud and spice just don't work well in the warmth. On the other hand, citric, floral and fresh notes work perfectly. With that being said, here are 3 fragrances that thrive in the summer. To start us off, we've gone for Versace Eros, a blend of Vanilla, citrus and green notes. It's fresh, clean and oddly nostalgic. It has moderate longevity, so it should see you through the day. Secondly, Acqua di Giò Profondo by Giorgio Armani. A citrus marine fusion that was built for spring and summer. It's fresh, It's clean, what more can you ask for? Lastly, we've chosen a fragrance that isn't always associated with summer. However, through our personal experience, we think it's the perfect match. Ralph Lauren's Polo Red. Citrusy, fruity and a little bit spicy. It's got everything. Similarly to the others, It's fresh, clean and perfect for the hotter months.
5. Cold weather
Similarly, as mentioned for hot weather, wearing fresh and light fragrances during the colder months is a rookie mistake. This is when your Oud, tobacco and spicy notes really shine. To start us off, we've chosen one of our all-time favourite winter scents. That scent being, Tom Ford, Ombre Leather. It's a beautiful, rich fragrance that promises recognition. It's far too heavy to wear during the summer months, but come winter, it's in its element. Next is Maison Margiela's By the fireplace. A winter classic. It's smoky, woody and spicy with an undertone of vanilla. Perfect for the festive season. Finally, another favourite of ours. Gentleman by Givenchy. A long-lasting, powdery scent that's packed with a vanilla spice combo. The longevity is impressive, lasting the whole day in our experience.
And there you are. Our list of the top 5 essential fragrances a man should own. We hope this list has been helpful in curating your collections, whether you're a veteran of the fragrance game or whether you're just getting started.
